3 Ways to Start the New Year Right

2013 was a fantastic year here at TnT, and we’d hate to end it without saying thank you to everyone who helped make this year truly great – our friends, family, colleagues, and customers. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and we want to help you bring in the New Year right!

On January 1st a lot of people will be beginning a new (or continuing an old) goal. Some will be trying to eat healthier while others want to read more or get organized. But, the resolution that should be on top of your list this year is spending more time with good friends and family. Whether it’s a BBQ on the patio or game night in your living room, vow to put the people you care about first in 2014.

Families are what keep us inspired to build decks and patio covers. We love to see how people incorporate their outdoor space into their hearts and homes. We’re passionate about building spaces that people love to share with the people who are important to them.

Over the years, the weather can take a toll on your deck or patio cover. Especially if your deck is over a decade old, it might not be safe and up to code.

Did you know that railing should be able to hold up to 200 lbs at any given moment? If your railing or boards are loose, then you and your family are at risk for injury.

Before you invite the whole gang over, inspect your deck for wobbly rails, rusty nails, wood rot, and damaged support beams. Give us a call at 541-926-3117 if you have any questions!

What’s the best way to celebrate the New Year? A party, of course! Check out our Pinterests boards Entertaining and The Holidays are Here for recipes and decoration ideas!

How about making these Pumpkin Spice Brownie Bites?

  • 1 box brownie mix (for a 9×13 pan)
  • 24 pumpkin spice kisses
  • 12 oz. melting chocolate (like Candiquik)
  • 1/4 c. white chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 tsp. shortening

  1. Bake the brownies according to the 2 egg directions on the back of the box.
  2. Cool completely. Cut into 24 squares.
  3. Place 1 unwrapped kiss in the center of each brownie. Roll the brownie around the kiss.
  4. Place in the freezer for at least 30 minutes.
  5. In a microwave safe bowl, place the melting chocolate and 1 tsp. shortening. Heat for 30 seconds and stir.
  6. Repeat until melted and smooth. Remove the brownie bites from the freezer.
  7. Place one bite at a time in the chocolate and swirl it around until coated. Remove with a fork and tap off the excess chocolate.
  8. Place on a wax paper lined tray.
  9. In another small microwave safe bowl, heat the white chocolate chips and 1/2 tsp. shortening for 20 seconds and stir.
  10. Repeat until melted and smooth.
  11. If you want you can add a little bit of orange gel color and stir it in.
  12. Place in a plastic bag and cut a tip off. Drizzle the tops of the brownie bites.
